Working with Smoothie
Smoothie is a wonderful product, it's great for creating a smooth silicone surface over regular soft urethane foam or "mattress foam".
Excellent for making foam props like:
 - armours
 - costumes
 - corps
 - body parts
 - food
 - and more...

Instructions for coating soft porous Urethane foam or mattress foam:

Here I am cutting-up a piece of mattress foam for demonstration purposes.

_____________________________________________________________

I'm not doing anything specific, just triming an inner curb. I'm also cutting very roughly to show how well Smoothie works.

_____________________________________________________________

Mix and thicken a batch of silicone, (you can use FuseFX silicone Thickener for this).
Spread a thickened coat of silicone over the foam surface to create a thin skin. Let cure.

_____________________________________________________________

I press in and scoop-up as much thickened silicone as I can. The idea is to fill the pores and make a thin skin.
You have to work fast before the silicone starts to jel.
I'm using Smooth-On's 910 Platinum because it has a shore 10 A and it has a long working time.

First coat is complete, note how thin the layer is. Let cure.

_____________________________________________________________

Next, mix another batch of thickened silicone and apply over the first layer, smoothing out as you go, something like icing a cake.
Again work fast before the silicone starts to jel.

______________________________________________________________________________

While the silicone is still wet, spray a liberal amount of Smoothie over the silicone surface, (use in well ventilated area)

_______________________________________________________________________________

With a soft sponge brush, lightly stroke the silicone to form a smooth even surface. Add more Smoothie if necessary. Let the silicone fully cure.
Make sure you wash off the Smoothie completly between coats.

______________________________________________________________________________

Once the silicone is cured, wash off Smoothie using warm water and let dry.
The silicone surface is now ready for the next coat if needed.
You can repeat as often as necessary.
Make sure you wash off the Smoothie completly between coats.

Once you are satisfied with the finish, wash again with warm water and the surface is ready to paint.

Note: you can even add detail to your wet silicone by dipping your sculpting tools or brushes into the Smoothie. Spray more Smoothie if needed.

Smoothing out the final wet coat on a silicone mold:

Build-up your silicone mold as usual until you achieve the desired thickness.
While the final coat of silicone is still wet, spray a liberal amount of Smoothie over the silicone surface and with a soft foam brush, lightly stroke the silicone to form a smooth even surface, add more Smoothie if necessary.
Let silicone cure.

Once the silicone is cured, wash off Smoothie using warm water and let dry. The silicone surface is now ready for the mother mold.
